The Thinking Layer

Not every problem needs a predefined service.

Many situations in business do not arrive neatly labelled.

What appears to be a capital problem may actually be a cashflow problem. What appears to be a people problem may be a systems problem. What appears to be a growth opportunity may first require clarity, structure or restraint.

REALSME Solutions exists to think through such situations before action is taken.

Our role may involve understanding, analysis, restructuring, review, representation, systems thinking or another form of support appropriate to the situation.

We prefer the right question before the ready-made answer.

The Individual First

Economic roles are different. They are not ranks.

REALSME recognises four broad economic roles: Employee, Freelancer, Business Owner and Entrepreneur.

  • Employee

    Participates within an organisation while developing capability, responsibility and experience.

  • Freelancer

    Creates value independently through personal skill, reputation and direct accountability.

  • Business Owner

    Builds an organisation that combines people, systems and capital to create value beyond personal effort.

  • Entrepreneur

    Builds opportunities, organisations and ecosystems that can extend beyond one person or one business.

An individual may remain in one role, move between roles, or participate in more than one at the same time. REALSME Solutions does not treat the journey as a hierarchy.

How We Think

Understand before advising.

We do not assume that the first explanation is always the real problem.

We listen, reflect, review context and try to understand the economic reality around the individual.

Depending on the situation, this may involve looking at the business, capital, ownership, responsibilities, systems, relationships, risks, opportunities or future direction.

Where appropriate, our involvement may also include representation in selected investment or strategic matters.

The nature of support depends on the person and the situation.

The REALSME Method

A human-centred approach to understanding and support.

Our work follows the REALSME Method.

The Method is built around listening, observation, reflection, understanding and applying only the support that is appropriate. It does not force every person or business through the same checklist.

The intention is not to create long-term dependence on REALSME Solutions. A good outcome should leave the individual or business clearer, stronger and more capable of moving independently.

Rather than publish a fixed service menu, we prefer to describe the kinds of situations in which our involvement may be relevant.
